Do E Cigs Taste Like Real Cigarettes?

One of the most common questions asked by conventional tobacco smokers who are thinking of making the move to vaping is whether the electronic counterparts taste exactly like the real thing.

The answer – and it is only fair that we are truthful – is no, they do not. However the second part of this answer may surprise you when we say that it does not really matter because the electronic cigarettes taste better!

Electronic cigarettes are often promoted as a healthier alternative to the traditional cigarettes and when comparing how they are made, it is easy to see why. An enormous amount of chemical compounds are created when a standard cigarette is burned – some four thousand of which a large percentage are carcinogenic, toxic or both. Many of these chemicals are responsible for causing cancer but none are present in an electronic cigarette. The e-juice which fuels the e-cig is normally made from a mixture of a solution of propylene glycol with a variety of flavours and a concentration of nicotine to suit.

To regular smokers, hearing that e-cigs do not really in terms of taste match what a standard cigarette has to offer sounds rather like bad news. But if they stop to question whether they really enjoy the taste of burned tobacco, particularly considering the lingering aftertaste that goes on in the mouth and start to appreciate there is a potentially more pleasant way of getting their fix of nicotine – then that is when they are likely to make the switch to electronic cigarettes.

Although we have said that e-cigs do not really taste like their traditional counterparts, we should point out that just about every company will ensure that they have conventional tobacco included in their range of flavours and will strive to ensure this is as close as they can get to the real thing. Nothing burns in the process used in the creation of e-cigs making replicating charred tobacco somewhat difficult – hence most tobacco-flavoured e-liquids tend to taste like fresh tobacco with a slight sweet undertone.

The tobacco flavours are only half the story when it comes to e-cigs. Most new vapers are probably sure that they will stick to just the tobacco range, but then comes the temptation to break from the habit and experiment with a new flavour. Suddenly a whole new world opens up to the vaper as the tobacco suddenly becomes easier to quit and many enjoyable options become available. There are standard flavours such as coffee, chocolate or menthol and also many more radical alternatives. In fact there is a wealth of fruity, icy, warm and spicy options to explore!
